President Mahama Invites Chiefs, Peace Council to Witness Bawku Mediation Report Presentation

President John Dramani Mahama has invited the National House of Chiefs and the National Peace Council (NPC) to witness the formal presentation of the Bawku conflict mediation report by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 16:00pm hours at the Presidency in Accra.

The invitation was extended during a courtesy call by the NPC, led by its Chairman, Reverend Emmanuel Kofi Fianu. President Mahama emphasized the critical need for a swift and peaceful resolution to the Bawku conflict, noting that the wider Sahel region of West Africa is grappling with violent extremism.

He expressed profound appreciation for the Asantehene's "invaluable role" in mediating the protracted conflict. President Mahama revealed that upon assuming office, the previous administration informed him they had enlisted Otumfuo's mediation efforts, a fact later confirmed by the revered chief himself.

"The government had been managing the crisis since waiting for the outcome of the mediation process," the President explained, noting he saw the traditional ruler's involvement as a "great opportunity" for peace.

He confirmed that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has signalled his readiness to present the findings of the mediation process on the appointed date.

President Mahama stated he looks forward to receiving the report alongside the NPC, the Executive Committee of the National House of Chiefs, and other recognised bodies and religious leaders.

"This way, whatever actions needed to be taken to implement the reports, they would all know exactly what they were going to do," he said, underscoring the collaborative approach planned for the next phase.

The event marks a significant step in the national effort to find a lasting solution to the conflict in Bawku.
